Recognition Dinner is Gala Evening!

Over 140
Chamber members and their guests enjoyed the gala event of the spring
in Clintonville and honored three community leaders on March 18th.
Brenda Pinnell of Bernie’s Garage was honored as the “Business Person
of the Year” for 2006. Clintonville Automotive Repair Service (C.A.R.S.)
and owner Ron Stein were named the “Business of the Year” and Betsy
Hubbard, of the Whetstone Recreation Initiative was named “The Booster
Community Volunteer of the Year.”
The
2006 Silent Auction, which was part of the evening’s festivities, was
also a success as dinner attendees found some
unique
bargains. One of those items was the “Naming Rights” to a menu item
at Smith’s Deli. Smith’s will now feature the
C.A.R.S. Club Croissant
on their
regular menu.
Last
year’s Business Person of the Year, Katie Palmer of Sobo Style
also started a new Chamber tradition by presenting Brenda Pinnell with
the “official” Business Person of the Year crown (right) which will be
passed along to future winners. All three winners expressed their
appreciation and gratitude to the Chamber and the community. The
winners also received commendations from the Rep. Jim Hughes of Ohio
Legislature and from Councilwoman Mary Jo Hudson the Columbus City
Council City Council .
Denise Baumann To Be Keynote Speaker
at Student Citizen Breakfast
Students
from six Clintonville area middle schools will be honored at the
Chamber’s annual Student Citizen Breakfast on Tuesday May 9th. The
annual event matches Chamber business members with students from the
6th, 7th and 8th grades.
This year’s keynote speaker for the event will be Chamber member
Denise Baumann, LMT. Although she is legally blind, Baumann is a
licensed massage therapist and has a successful business at 3805 N.
High St. 
“We
are excited that Denise accepted our invitation to be our keynote
speaker at this year’s breakfast,” said Sue Lusk Gleich, Co-Chair of
the event. “I am sure she will be an inspiration to our students.”
The
event will begin at 7:30 am at the Midwest Hotel and Conference Center
on Sinclair Rd. Chamber sponsors will host the student and their
family members. Each student will receive a certificate of
recognition and a “goody bag” of products and gift certificates
donated by Clintonville Chamber members.
A
limited number of sponsorships are still available, and if your
company would like to be a Student Citizen sponsor or you would like
to contribute items for the student goody bags, contact the Chamber
office at 262-2790. Items can be dropped off at the Chamber at 4219
N. High St. by April 28th.

D.R. Miller to Join Capitol….
After
serving Clintonville businesses for 13 years, Don Miller is joining
Capitol Office Supplies and has closed his office supply store at
4290 N. High St. At age 76, Don had planned to retire, but the offer
was a “win-win” for him. . However, Clintonville will certainly miss
the convenience and customer friendly staff at the corner of Cook and

Luncheon Speaker
In the
age of e-commerce, telemarketing, websites, and corporate mergers, how
does an entrepreneur gain a competitive advantage? Dr. Jay Barney of
the OSU Fisher College of Business will address the issue at the
Chamber’s monthly luncheon on April 18. Dr. Barney currently holds
the “Bank One Chair for Excellence in Corporate Strategy.” He has
published more than 50 articles in leading business journals related
to his research which has focused on the relationship between
costly-to copy firm skills and capabilities and sustained competitive
advantage.
The
luncheon will be held at the Clintonville Woman’s Club, 3951 N. High.

Chamber Will Again Host
Hospitality Village on July 4th

It’s not
too early to begin making plans to enjoy the July 4th activities at
Whetstone Park in the comfort of your own hospitality tent. Again
this year in cooperation with the
Clintonville July 4th Celebration organizers the Chamber will
host the Hospitality Village.
“It
was a great day,” said John Hahn of the Columbus Handyman.
“Last
year we hosted employees, friends and clients. Our hospitality tent
let us enjoy the activities hassle free.”
