Cruise the Ville Expands for 2008, Super Cruise Returns, Friday Movie at Studio 35

For the sixth year, they’ll come Cruisin’ in Clintonville. The Chamber’s popular summer event just keeps growing with the help of our major sponsorship partners, Tansky's Sawmill Toyota, Columbus Recreation and Parks, and WBNS TV.

This year’s Cruise the Ville has expanded to a two day event, including special showing of the movie “Grease” at Studio 35 on Indianola Ave on Friday night.  Our Cruiser’s will get free admission to the show and special parking on Indianola to show off their cars.

On Saturday, August 23rd the “Main Event” will kick off with registration at the NAPA Registration tent  starting at 11:00 am.  Cruise Chair Brenda Pinnell and her committee have continued to expand the events activities, offering “something for everyone.”

Super Cruise Returns for 2008

One popular feature will return after being missed last year.  The 9-mile “Super Cruise through the streets of Clintonville will take place at 3:30 pm. Along High St., Morse Rd., Indianola Ave, and Arcadia St.

10TV Family Fund Will Benefit

For the fifth consecutive year, a portion of the proceeds raised from Cruise the Ville will benefit the WBNS 10TV Family Fund, which is used to assist central Ohio families in need.  Cruise the Ville has contributed over $5,000 to the Fund from past events.

For complete schedule of activities and more go to www.cruisetheville.com.

Opening night for this year's Cruise the Ville will be something special.  Cruise on down to Indianola Ave to show off your car and attend a special showing of "Grease" at Studio 35, 3055 Indianola.

There will be special marked parking for Cruisers and Cruisers will receive free admission to the show.  You can also beat the rush on Saturday by reregistering for Cruise the Ville at Studio 35.  There will be prizes and trivia, food and fun. Cruiser parking will be available starting at 6:00 pm and the show starts at 7:00 pm.  It will be a great way to start your Cruise the Ville weekend.

The "Main Event" on Saturday August 23rd at Whetstone Park

It's Much More Than Just A Cruise In From 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Saturday August 23rd, Cruise the Ville returns to Whetstone Park for a day that is jam packed with activity.  It is much more than just a Cruise In, there will be something for everyone.

Registration Starts at 11:00 am

Cruiser registration starts at 11:00 am and will run until 2:30 pm at the NAPA Registration Tent, located at the end of Hollenback Dr.(cruise on down to the bottom of the hill).  You will want to get there early to make sure you get your favorite spot.  We will have our traditional Cruiser "Goodie Bags" and dash plaques for the first 200 cruisers. Our dash plaques are sponsored by Beechwold Automotive, 3630 Indianola Ave, and Bernie's Garage and Body Shop, 18 W. Como.  Registration is $10 per car.

Headquarters and Prize Area

Once you find your favorite parking spot, head over to the Thompson Cunningham Insurance Headquarters Tent where our Cruise the Ville volunteers will give you your official dash sheet to display on your car.  You can also check out the great prizes that will be raffled off every half hour during the day.

Clintonville area merchants have donated a lot of great prizes. You can also pick up extra raffle tickets at the Headquarters tent and get your official "Cruise the Ville" t-shirt for 2008.  Again this year, the Mid Ohio Driving School at the Mid Ohio Sports Car track in Lexington, Ohio has donated two driving school packages as our Grand Prize.

Entertainment All Day Long by the Bill Foley Band

The Fifth Third Bank Stage will be busy all day long. Beginning at 12:00 there will be music by the Bill Foley Band, sponsored by Ohio Auto Kolor.

It will be our cruisers' favorite music from the 50's, 60's and 70's.

Food and Fun are Always Part of Cruise the Ville

You can't have a cruise in without great food and Cruise the Ville will have plenty.  Clintonville's own Weiland's Gourmet Market will be there with their usual fare, but this year we have added a special Community Hog Roast.

The big pig will be on the spit in the morning and there will be a special "Hog Carving" at 1:00 pm.  There will also be fresh from the market produce for sale from Weiland's antique delivery truck.  Also Weiland's staff will be conducting grilling demonstrations throughout the afternoon.

In addition to Weiland's you can cool off with a smoothie from DA Concessions or Italian Ice from Giuseppe's Italian Ice.  The great folks from Panera Bread will also be there with bagels.

Touch-A-Truck is for Kids of All Ages

This year our popular "Touch-A-Truck exhibit will be sponsored by Two Men and A Truck, 5083 Westerville Rd. and there will be something for kids of all ages.  Touch-A-Truck will have a great lineup of vehicles.  Kids will be able to sit behind the wheel, see you they operate, and learn about what they do.

Here's our Touch A Truck lineup

  • A Columbus Fire Truck from our own Station 19

Business Showcase Highlights Chamber Members

Several Clintonville Chamber members will also have special displays at the event in addition to our food vendors.  AutoZone's will have free popcorn in addition to information on where to find those hard to get parts.  Spine & Sports Chiropractic Center will offer free spine alignment testing, Tansky's Sawmill Toyota will feature the latest in hybrid technology.  If you are looking for the latest in outdoor equipment, don't miss the Clintonville Outfitters tent.  The Aladdin Shrine Clowns unit will be back with face painting for kids and the Northern Columbus Kiwanis will have games.  If you're looking for a new spot for that special vehicle, The Garage Gurus will have just the building for you.

Special Pilot Dog Demonstration Sponsored by Knapp Veterinary Hospital

From 12:30 - 1:30, Knapp Veterinary Hospital in cooperation with Central Ohio Pilot Dogs, will have several of their highly trained dogs on hand and will be conducting a special demonstration near the new Whetstone playground.

The Super Cruise Returns at 3:30

Back by popular demand!  At 3:30 on Saturday, our Cruisers will take a spin around Clintonville as the "Super Cruise" returns, thanks to Mobile Electronics, 4368 Indianola Ave.,  our Super Cruise Sponsor.  Cruisers will leave the park, head north on High Street to Morse Rd, to Indianola, to Arcadia, and back up High Street to the Park.  Sorry, they won't be smokin' the tires, our cruisers always obey traffic laws.

Spectator Admission is Free, Parking at New Rec Center Lot With Shuttle Service

As always, there is no spectator admission charge, but our Cruise committee has added some amenities for our spectators.  Spectator parking will be available in the new lot behind the Whetstone Recreation Center (enter of Hollenback Dr.) and in the lot just past the tennis courts.  Thanks to the sponsorship of Southwick, Good, and Fortkamp Funeral Chapel,

there will be a free shuttle bus to take spectators to the lower lot and all of the activities.  There will also be handicapped parking available at the Whetstone casting pond lot.  Spectators who need handicapped parking should enter from Olentangy Blvd.

Trophies, Trophies, Trophies

Each year the judging at Cruise the Ville has been "just for fun" rather than technical.  Our panel of judges will be looking over the cars between 2:30 and 3:30 and tabulating their votes.

Following the Super Cruise, when the cars return to the park, our committee will award 50 trophies.  Our trophy sponsors are Clintonville Automotive Repair Service (C.A.R.S.) 585 Oakland Park Ave. and AutoZone, 3559 N. High St.  Our judging committee will also be setting up a voting booth for the "People's Choice" trophy at the Headquarters tent.
