Outgoing Board Members Will Be Honored at Dec. 18th Luncheon

Pinnell & Davis Have Served the Chamber for Six Years

Two of the Chamber’s most active and involved Board members for the past six years will be leaving the Board at the end of the year, but neither plans to end their service to the Chamber.

Chair of the Board Judy Davis of J.  Thomas Davis Guitar Maker and Past Chair Brenda Pinnell of Bernie’s Garage and Body Shop will be completing their second three year Board term.  The pair will be honored for their service to the Chamber at our December 18th luncheon at 11:30 am at Café Mozart, 4490 Indianola Ave.

Judy Davis joined the Chamber Board in 2001.  In addition to being Chair of the Board in 2007, Judy also served as Vice Chair of Economic Development.  She also served on the Student Citizen Breakfast Committee, Cruise Committee, By Laws Committee and the High Street Improvements Task Force.

In addition to helping her husband Tom at J. Thomas Davis Guitar Maker, the couple also owns several Clintonville commercial properties that house a number of successful small businesses.

“I believe that one of the Chamber’s strengths is the way the Board has broadened its scope to include members from all segments of our membership.” Davis told the Chamber Notes.

One of the areas she counts as a major accomplishment during her time on the Board is “the continual improvement and quality of the Chamber programs.” she said.  “Especially the way the Annual Celebration Dinner and Cruise the Ville have grown.  They have not only been a benefit to the Chamber, but to the entire Clintonville community, and have enabled the Chamber to stabilize our finances through our successful programs.

Brenda Pinnell first became involved in the Chamber as a member of the Spring Concert Committee.  She served as Chamber Secretary in 2003 and was elected as Chair of the Board in 2004.

“I think the Chamber is certainly more visible and actively involved in the community than in its early days.” Pinnell said. “Being involved in the Chamber has been a tremendous help in my own business.  Working with other successful business owners and sharing ideas and issues has be very valuable.”

Pinnell’s legacy with the Chamber will always be Cruise the Ville.  She has served as the chair of the event for five years and has helped it grow each year.  It is one of the Chamber’s key annual events and not only provides promotion and exposure for Chamber members, but brings new people to the community each year.

“Cruise the Ville has been a great event. It has grown each year.  It let me combine many facets of my own business with a successful Chamber program.  It has been exciting watching the event grow into the community wide happening that it was this year offering something for everyone.”

Pinnell was named the Chamber’s “Business Person of the Year” in 2006.

Thanks Judy and Brenda for your years of service to the Chamber and the community

Graham School Intern Learning About Business While Helping Chamber

The Chamber was approached earlier  this year by the Graham School regarding our hosting an intern.  T.J. Caldwell has been working at the Chamber on Tuesdays and Thursdays since the start of the school year.

“TJ is a terrific young man. He has been a great addition  to our staff,” said Ernie Hartong, Chamber President. “His willingness to do any job we ask of him has been a great help to the Chamber. He shows a level of professionalism that I was not expecting from a high school junior.”

TJ has learned about the unglamorous side of business, such as stuffing envelopes, making follow-up phone calls, and cleaning up bad email addresses, but he feels the experience has been a positive one.

“The internship has helped me on many levels.” TJ said.  “I have learned the importance of communication in the everyday business world.  This internship has helped me with planning and organizational skills.  The business leaders I have met, have been very inspirational.”
