New Chair of the Board Looks Ahead to 2008
The Chamber, which
stands as the only “neighborhood-based” chamber in the city of
Columbus, was organized to serve the needs of businesses operating in
Clintonville but has become much more. Our 2008 Community Directory ,
our 10th edition, which will be delivered starting in late February is
one effort provided by the Chamber to support local businesses but
also to provide a service to this great residential community.
The continued development of Clintonville is dependent upon a strong
community, which includes the residential and business communities.
Through cooperation, we have made Clintonville into the premier
neighborhood in Columbus. In addition to the directory, the
Chamber also brings several events to you throughout the year. In
2008, these include the Celebrate Clintonville Recognition Dinner
Feb. 22, which honors both business and community leadership, the
Chamber Student Citizen Breakfast , the Chamber Golf Classic and
Cruise the Ville, August 23rd at Whetstone Park. We invite you to
take part in your community by participating in any or all of these
events. In addition, the Chamber’s regular monthly events, such as
our luncheons and First Friday breakfasts are designed to offer your
business additional networking opportunities. The Chamber’s officers
and Board look forward to meeting you at these events and we are
always interested in your feed back regarding Chamber programs and
activities.
Another effort the Chamber is undertaking in support of the local
community is in redevelopment of the Whetstone Recreation Center. The
Recreation Center was originally built in 1956 and is now undergoing
its first major overhaul since 1984. While the city has committed $5
million in funds for improvements, we are raising additional funds to
make the center comparable to recreation centers in the city’s
surrounding suburbs. For the Clintonville community to continue its
prosperity, development of the services and facilities such as the Rec
Center are vitally important. With more than 35,000 local residents,
just $15 per resident would meet our goal for the project. We look to
all of you for support of this important project.
Thank you for your
continued support of the Clintonville Area Chamber of Commerce. We
are working with you to build a better Clintonville.

January
24th Luncheon To Focus on Small Business Financing

Securing financing for growth is always a challenge for small
business. Two of the most successful programs in Columbus are the
Linked Deposit program of the State of Ohio Treasurer’s office and the
Community Capital Development Corporation.
The
Linked Deposit program was started in 1983 and has assisted thousdands
of Ohio small businesses. The program authorizes the State to place
up to 12% of the State’s investment portfolio in reduced rate
investments at local lending institutions, which in turn lend
the
funds to
qualifying small businesses at below market rates.
Amanda Hoyt, the program’s senior manager in the office of Ohio
Treasurer Richard Corday will outline the program at our January
luncheon.
The
Community Capital Development Corporation is a private, not-for-profit
corporation which makes loans for land, buildings and equipment. The
CCDC also provides working capital loans for businesses in Columbus.
Brad Shimp, the CCDC’s Executive Director will explain the CCDc’s
programs. Since 1981 the CCDC has made over $200 million in loans to
over 1000 Ohio businesses. For reservations, contact the Chamber
office, 262-2790. Doors open at 11:30 at at the Clintonville
Woman's Club, cost of lunch is $15.
