It's Time to
"Cruise the Ville on August 18th

Expanded Event Will Offer Something For Everyone!
The Chamber’s Fifth Annual
“Cruise the Ville”
will return to Whetstone Park on Saturday, August 18, but this year’s
event will have a few new twists.
The cars will be the stars of the day as auto enthusiasts show off
their personal best and auto lovers can stroll around and admire the
view. This is the fifth year for Cruise the Ville which began at
Graceland Shopping Center in 2003. Since Graceland has come back in a
big way as a shopping hub, it’s a little harder to hold an event
there, so the park was chosen as the home last year and in 2007.
But
cars are just the beginning. Brenda Pinnell of Bernie’s Garage & Body
Shop, Inc. and Chair of the 2007 show is excited about the activities
planned for the day.
The
Columbus Department of Parks and Recreation is bringing in a climbing
wall which will be staffed with recreation professionals to help
climbers scale their way to the top. “Touch a Truck” is another unique
feature of the day’s entertainment. A cement mixer, a hook-and-ladder
fire truck, a 10TV mobile van, and maybe even a helicopter will
provide some hands-on opportunities for kids to get up close and
personal with the equipment.
Following up on last year’s “Clintonville Idol” competition is this
year’s Cruise the Ville Idol contest. Audition places and times are
still pending. If you don’t want to participate, then at least be
prepared to be entertained. Brenda Pinnell said that last year’s
“Idol” observers pulled their
chairs
as close as they could to enjoyed the singers. Arnett Howard was also
pleased with the quality of last year’s Idols. Howard will be the
featured entertainer for an outdoor concert this year. (See related
story page down)
“10TV
deserves big thanks for helping us promote the event,” says Pinnell.
“and since the cars will be staying in place this year (all the better
to be admired) and since automobile access to the park will be very
carefully routed, families can feel safe about attending with young
children.”
Weiland’s will be on hand this year serving their usual great food.
They will also be the sponsors of the Climbing Wall. The Cruise the
Ville committee will donate 100% of the donations at the Wall to the
Whetstone Community Center renovation project.
Sponsorships for Every Budget
You
can also promote your business at this year’s Cruise through
sponsorship or by having a booth at the “Clintonville Business
Showcase.” Sponsors will also be featured in Cruise the Ville
advertising in ThisWeek Clintonville.
Hot
dogs, good music, trophies for cars and prizes for those brave souls
singing their hearts out – can it get any better than this? Well, yes
it can. Chamber members are participating to showcase their
businesses for the days, and several levels of sponsorship are
available. Call the Chamber office at 262-2790 and get involved in
this great day for families and cruisers!

new Retail Lending Manager. In her new role, Jacobsen will be
responsible for overseeing all business lending activities as well as
