July 4th at Whetstone Park is a Family
Tradition...Join Us for Fun!

Volunteers Make It Happen!
From the Community Breakfast to the last glow of the fireworks show,
July 4th is a special time in Clintonville, and it’s all done by
volunteers! The Clintonville July 4th Celebration happens because of
the dedicated work and involvement of a group of Clintonville
residents. It is the largest privately funded celebration of its kind
in central Ohio. Former Chamber Board Chair Scott Smith has headed
the volunteer July 4th Board for the past ten years. Chamber members
and businesses provide a significant portion of the funding for the
event, and Clintonville residents also support the groups efforts
with contributions.
Again this year, the Chamber will be hosting the events “Hospitality
Village” for event sponsors and Chamber members. Chamber members are
welcome to join us for refreshments and a great view of the fireworks
show

Third Public Forum on Clintonville Plan, July 9th
Meeting to be Held at Bishop Watterson High School

The
City of Columbus Development Department planning staff has taken all
of the input from the first two public workshops regarding the
“Clintonville Neighborhood Plan” and have created a draft document
which will be reviewed at the third public forum on Wednesday, July 9,
2008, at Bishop Watterson High School. The meeting will begin at 6:30
pm.
The
Plan deals with housing options, transportation alternatives,
improving walking and biking, and guidelines for new development.
It is
very important that Chamber members and the business
community provide the City staff with input regarding the Clintonville
Plan and its proposed strategies and policies, in order to protect
future property rights and land use.
Chamber Members Get "Sneak
Preview" of New Rec Center
The
renovation and expansion of the Whetstone
Recreation
Center is in the home stretch, with the official dedication scheduled
for Sept. 6, but Clintonville Chamber members got a sneak preview of
the new facilities at our June luncheon.
Rick
Miller, (right) project manager for the Recreation and Parks
Department pointed out the many improvements to the facility,
including new air conditioning, windows, and reception area.
The
biggest change is the new “multi-purpose room” and community room
additions and second floor restroom facilities.
The
Chamber is assisting the Whetstone Recreation Initiative with fund
raising for the new center. Jacquelyn Lucas Murphy, Chamber Vice
Chair also serves as the Co-Chair for the fund raising effort along
with former Clintonville Area Commissioner, Betsy Hubbard.
“The community has committed to raising an addition $500,000 to
augment the City’s $5 million investment in the project.” Murphy
said. “It is our way of making the new facility truly a Clintonville
Community Center and not just another City of Columbus recreation
facility.”
The
original plans for the Center called for $1.3 million in improvements,
but efforts by Clintonville leadership working with the Recreation and
Parks planners, expanded the project to include the new multi purpose
room and community room.
If
you are interested in making a contribution to the new center, contact
the Chamber office at 262-2790, or to learn more about the project go
