2006 Cruise the Ville Will Be In Whetstone Park...

Committee Adds "Clintonville Idol" Program

With a new venue, more space and a new relationship with the City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, the 2006 Cruise the Ville is shaping up to be the most exciting year yet in the events four year history.

“Moving the event to Whetstone Park will give us many more options for both our cruisers and spectators,” Brenda   Pinnell, Cruise the Ville Chair told the Chamber Notes.

The Cruise will utilize both the casting pond parking lot and the lot in front of the shelter house.  The two lots should be able to accommodate 250 cars.  In addition, the committee is expanding this year’s Taste of Clintonville program into as business showcase as well.  This year in addition to the popular Clintonville restaurants, many non-food Clintonville businesses will also have displays at the event.  All of the displays will be centered around the Park of Roses Shelter House.  The shelter house itself will be used as a hospitality area for spectators.

Also new for 2006 will be a special

Children’s games section.  This program will include a “Piston Toss” and special martial arts demonstration by students from Clintonville’s Metro Martial Arts Studio.  Several additional games are also in the planning stages.

“Clintonville Idol” Coming to Cruise the Ville

The biggest addition to the 2006 Cruise will be the Clintonville Idol contest.  Sharon Daye is heading up the idol contest committee and there will be both a children’s contest and adult contest.  Finalists will be selected from open auditions which will be held on Sunday, June 11, at he Central Ohio Dance Academy, 4366 Indianola Ave.  Under 17 entrants auditions will be from 1:00 pm—3:00 pm and the 18 and over auditions will begin at 3:30 pm.

Super Cruise Returns….

The entire day will be highlighted by the Super Cruise through Clintonville.   The Super Cruise will  leave Whetstone at 4:00 pm and circle High St., Morse Rd, Indianola and Acadia Ave.  The cruisers will return to Whetstone for the presentation of the trophies and special drawings. Business Briefs...

Chamber Members Celebrate

Business Anniversaries

The Chamber would like to congratulate the following members who will be or have celebrated important business anniversaries recently...

SoBo Style, Katie Palmer—5 years

ASC Group, Shaune Skinner—20 year

California Concepts

      Carmen Rincones— 30 years

Colonial Candy, Melissa Goodrich and

    Family — 40 years.

Does your business have a significant milestone coming up?  Let us know about it!

Summer is Good Time to Give Your Car a New Look!

Even though it was a mild winter, your car may have sustained some rust damage from winter road salt and chemicals.  Now is the time to think about having those rust spots repaired or giving “old Betsy” a new paint job.  Bernie’s Garage and Body Shop trained technicians can professionally match virtually any paint color and have your car looking like new for the summer.

Also new at Bernie’s, “Bring your Own Parts” and Bernie’s will install them.  A major shift in the auto repair industry over the past few years, has been the growth of auto parts stores.  Many customers prefer to purchase their own parts and bring them to the repair shop.  Bernie’s has responded to their customer needs, but some restrictions do apply.

J.S. Brown Wins NARI Awards

The National Association of Remodeling Industry recently presented several regional awards to the J.S. Brown Co.

The firm was named “Contractor of the Year” in the entire house category, and Chris Cline, Certified Lead Carpenter, was honored for achieving the highest score in the nation on the CLC certification process.  The central Ohio NARI chapter also received national recognition.

June Business After Hours Features Tour and Special Program

The Chamber will present a very special program for our members and their families on Thursday, June 22, 2006.  The event will be held at the Whetstone Gardens and Care Center, 3700 Olentangy River Rd. from 5:00-7:00 pm.

Our host for the evening, Sherry Wiseman, Marketing Director for Whetstone Gardens has added to the usual Business After Hours activities by adding an educational program.

The topic for the evening is called “Wealth Protection and Wealth Transfer: Issues for Those with Aging Parents.”   A panel of experts will cover a variety of topics and answer questions regarding wealth protection and basic estate planning.  The Chamber’s Vice Chair of Programs, Jacquelyn Lucas Murphy, and investment representative with Edward Jones, has recently addresses some of these issues in her own family.   Wiseman and Murphy have created a program to help chamber members consider many of these important family planning issues.

In addition to our two hosts, the panel will also include Joe Patchen of Carlile, Patchen and Murphy and Bruce Andrews of the Hartford Life Insurance Co.

So for food, networking, and a very timely and interesting program, plan to attend the June 22 Business After Hours.  There is no charge to attend, but please RSVP to the Chamber by Monday June 19th if you and/or members of your family plan to attend.  Call the Chamber at 262-2790 or email

COTA Public Meeting

June 8 at Charity Newsies…

COTA is sponsoring a series of Public Meetings to share results of the North Corridor Transit Project (NCTP) with the community; and provide the public with an opportunity to comment on the Project. An Alternatives Analysis, which identifies the impacts and benefits of various transit options in the North Corridor, will be presented. The Alternatives Analysis is a key component of the Preliminary Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) scheduled for completion in 2006.  In July, the COTA Board of Trustees will consider the results of the Alternatives Analysis, including community input, and select a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA).

The Clintonville meeting will be held on Thursday, June 8, at 6:30 pm at the Charity Newsies Building at 4300 Indianola Ave.

The Chamber urges it members to be involved in this public process.

A Decade of Newsweek Covers...How the Media Influences the Market...

Since magazine editors are constantly hunting the most significant issue in the collective conscious of the culture, a careful observer can also use it as a forecasting tool. A magazine’s only going to reserve its cover space for the biggest buzz in the nation. By the time a market trend or a social mood is worthy of a front cover, those trends and feelings have become so extreme they’re usually on the verge of peaking.

So whenever you see a magazine like Newsweek either bemoaning the state of the market or ecstatic about its success, be on the lookout for a

swing the other way. For the past 30 years, nearly every major turn in the Dow was immediately preceded by a major news-magazine hailing the “current” trend.

Skip Whitworth, Regional Vice President of Van Campen Investments will be the Chamber’s June Luncheon speaker and will be looking at how the covers of major news magazines can be used as a forecasting tool.

The luncheon will be held on   Tuesday,  June 20, 2006, at the   Clintonville Woman’s Club.  Doors open at 11:15.   Reservations are  required.  Make your reservations by calling the chamber office at         262-2790 or email, jnini@clintonvillechamber.com.

Expand Your World, by Judy Fasone, RN and Certified Trager Practioner

The universe is expanding, and so are we!  Or if not, why not?  A symptom of a lack of expansion in your life may be pain or tension in the body/mind.  A natural state of health is to follow the movement or principles of the universe. Better known as "Natural Law" , these simple ideas are rules to live by. Here are a few off the top of my head:

Honor diversity: A lack of diversity allows the predator/prey system to become unbalanced. For example, when reforestation occurs after a clear cut, pine trees in massive acreage are planted. No diversity there.  Soon the Japanese beetle (the ladybug that is orange instead of red) is everywhere, at an out of control reproduction rate that takes chemicals to battle.

Community: No one is an island. Being a part of a community makes life a lot easier!  We do not live this life alone, so why not choose or create the type of community you want to be a part of?

Expansion: I no longer think of the universe singly, because scientists have discovered many!  So now whenever possible, I say MULTIVERSE, to reflect on the expansion of the universes…for example, a seed is planted, and turns into a flower or tree!  This is expansion.  An idea is created and it becomes a building! A baby is conceived and soon becomes an adult!  Let us support our own expansion, not work against it.

There are many other natural laws I could mention here, and for today my point is really to draw your attention to the expansion of the self through the transformative approaches.

I realized during a session today, that all human beings express “the self” emotionally just as far as it can physically, and vice versa.  Milton Trager said " I am convinced for every physical non-yielding condition there is a psychic counterpart in the unconscious mind, corresponding exactly to the degree of the physical manifestation."  I know this to be true as well.

Hetter Heating & Cooling wins the Better Business Bureau's 2010 Torch Award for business ethics
The Better Business Bureau of Central Ohio has awarded Hetter Heating & Cooling the 2010 Torch Award for Ethical Enterprising. Three businesses and one non-profit organization have been selected as recipients of this prestigious award.
"Winning this award is both an honor and a responsibility," says Hetter president and owner John Hetterscheidt. "We have such great respect for the BBB. The work they do in our community is priceless. We want to continue offering great service to our customers and even raise the bar."
Hetter won in the most contested category (for companies with 50 or less employees) and is only the third heating & cooling company to win the award since its inception in 1994 and the first in six years.
A panel of judges selected these organizations based on six ethical and enterprising criteria and based on demonstrating a high level of trust amont their employees, customers and their communities.
