Henderson Road Re-Construction To Start Next Month
Public Meeting on Project April 30th at Whetstone H.S.
Major
improvements are coming to Henderson Road between High Street and S.R.
315 thanks to the collaborative efforts of three City departments:
Public Service, Public Utilities, and Recreation and Parks. The $4.6
million investment will result in a smooth new more pedestrian and
bike friendly roadway.
The road will be
completely reconstructed, with new curbs, traffic signals, water lines
and drainage improvements. Mayor Michael B. Coleman’s commitment to
sidewalks and bicycle access is reflected in this project. The
sidewalk on the south of Henderson will be widened from 5 feet to 8
feet, making it a multi-use path. This will provide better access for
pedestrians and bicyclists traveling along Henderson and improve the
flow of bike and pedestrian traffic, where the Olentangy Trail meets
Henderson.
To
ensure enough room for timely completion of the project, Henderson
Road traffic will be restricted to one-way eastbound only between
Starret Rd and High Street during construction. Westbound traffic
will be detoured to North Broadway and S.R. 161.
City
officials have planned several strategies to minimize cut-through
traffic. Temporary speed humps, signage and turn restrictions will be
placed to encourage westbound through traffic to use the posted
detours.
A public meeting will
be held on Wednesday, April 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Whetstone High
School. Residents with questions about the project can contact Paving
the Way at 645-PAVE or the Columbus 311 Call center at 645-3111. Work
is expected to start in early June, with completion expected before
the end of the year.
Updates on any road
restrictions associated with the project will be available from Paving
the Way, pavingtheway.org. A website will be set up to provide regular
updates on the project’s progress. The link will soon be available at
the Public Service Department Site at
columbus.gov
and at
pavingtheway.org.
May Luncheon to Feature OSU Entrepreneurship Professor

Professor Sharon Alvarez has started and owned a small business, so
while her research focus is on entrepreneurial theory and high
technology alliances between entrepreneurship firm and larger
established firms, she has plenty of “low tech” first hand small
business experience.
Professor Alvarez will be our featured speaker at the
Chamber’s May 22nd
luncheon at the Clintonville Woman’s Club.
Professor Alvarez
has
published in
Academy of Management Executive,
Journal of Business Venturing,
Journal of Management,
Human Resource Management Journal,
and
Journal of Management Sciences.
Alvarez is on the editorial boards of
Journal of Business Venturing,
Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice,
Journal of Small Business Economics
and
Human Resource Management Review.
She is the founder and was the academic director for OSU’s Center for
Entrepreneurship.
Recently Professor Alvarez and her students worked with the Gobal
Gallery coffee shop in German Village. The students analyzed the
shop’s operations and presented their findings to hopefully help boost
the shops business to Executive Director Connie De Jong. Professor
Alvarez will be discussing her students findings in this case study at
the Chamber luncheon and discussing other entrepreneurship theories.
Reservations are necessary and should be called or emailed to the
Chamber no later than May 16th.
The doors open at 11:30 am and Chamber members are encouraged to bring
any promotional material about their business for display. Cost for
the lunch is $15. (A vegetarian option is available on request, at the
time you make your reservation.)
