Chamber Endorses COTA Levy,
Issue 7

At its
October meeting the Board of Directors of the Chamber voted to endorse
the COTA Levy, Issue 7 on the November 7th ballot.
“COTA knits our metropolitan area together, and they are of vital
importance to the Clintonville community,” Joe Patchen, Chamber Vice
Chair of Government Relations and Economic Development, said in a
letter to the editor announcing the Chamber position. “COTA is a
vital link that provides both the employees of Clintonville businesses
and customers of those businesses access.” The High Street #2 bus is
COTA’s most heavily used route.
In
reviewing the COTA issue the Chamber Board felt there were a number
of reasons the issue should be supported. COTA will defer collection
of the 1/4% sales tax until 2008, when the current tax expires. So in
effect COTA is not asking for a tax increase.
Revenue generated from the tax will enable COTA to restore recent
service cuts, and expand service in the future. Finally the
proposed levy is for 10 years, and at time voters will have an
opportunity to again weigh in on COTA’s performance.
“The
COTA management has made a number of tough choices in the last two
years,” said Ernie Hartong, Chamber President, “The Chamber Board felt
they have earned our support and we are urging our members and the
community to vote yes on Issue 7.”
Clintonville Real Estate Bucks National Trends!
According to the Columbus Board of Realtors MLS Activity comparison
report, real estate activity in Clintonville continues strong and is
bucking the national trends you may have read or heard about from
local and national media sources. According to the CBR comparison
report covering the period of January to August 2006, the local market
is strong. New listings were up 16.7% (804 – 2006 vs 689 -2005),
Under Contract increased 6.8% (488 -2006 vs 457 – 2005) and Sold was
up 5% (461 -2006 vs 439 – 2005). The average sale price in
Clintonville was up 2.1% from 187, 473 in ’05 to $191, 472 in ’06.
There are certainly
many factors that contribute to this steady growth, but a major one is
the professionalism and community involvement of the North Area Real
Estate Association. Real estate professionals do make a difference.
One innovative approach
the NAREA is using is their new “Third Thursday Twilight Open Houses”
from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
The third Thursday
of each month, Clintonville realtors are holding open houses so that
perspective buyers can beat the weekend rush.

Chamber
to Partner With NAREA For New Program
Would
You Like More Business on Thursday Evenings?
The
Clintonville Chamber is partnering with our North Area Real Estate
Association members for a new program that is designed to boost
customer traffic on the Third Thursday of every month.
The NAREA has recently begun holding open houses at their Clintonville
listings from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on the Third Thursday of every month. On
Thursday, October 19th
there were 45 houses open on the “Twilight Tour” that generated
several hundred visitors. NAREA and the Chamber are offering our
retail members an opportunity to invite these potential new
Clintonville residents to visit your store.
We
will be creating a “Coupon Bag” that will be available in each of the
open house locations. These coupons can offer a special “Twilight
Tour Deal” or simply invite these potential customer to visit your
store. The idea is that these coupons will only be made available to
those customers that pick up the “Coupon Bag” at one of the homes on
the open house tour. Retailers may also want to do something
special in their stores the night of the event. Punch and cookies,
etc. You may also think about extending your store hours for this
once a month event.
The next NAREA Twilight Tour Open House will be Thursday, Nov. 16th.
If you are interested in participating in this new program,
please contact the Chamber office at 262-2790.

Newt
Jones welcomed Maggie Lowery of Grandview to the NAREA Twilight Tour
last month.Maggie was visiting a listing on E. Schreyer. Realtors had
45 Clintonville homes on last month’s tour, attracting several hundred
prospective buyers.

Nancy's Featured in Dispatch Food Section
“I’m no
chef, just a cook.” That was the comment of Clintonville’s Cindy King,
owner of Nancy’s Home Cooking.
Cindy and her restaurant were featured in the Oct. 26th issue of the
Dispatch. Included in the article was her recipe for “Nancy’s
Meatloaf”. Why is the Clintonville favorite called Nancy’s and not
Cindy’s Home Cooking?
“I
didn’t want to buy a new sign, so I bought Nancy’s name for $100,”
King told the Dispatch.

Chamber
Members Make "Buckeye" Connection!
Lisa Schaber owner of Holiday Baking and Alberta Burke, the new sales
manager at the Holiday Inn on the Lane came to the Chamber’s “New
Member Breakfast with the Chair” just to learn more about Chamber
programs and activities. After reviewing Lisa’s menu of specialty
baked goods, Alberta thought that Lisa’s
Block O
and
Go Bucks
sugar cookies (below) would be a great offering in the Holiday Inn’s
lobby on Fridays before Buckeye home games. The rest as they say is
history.
The business opportunity has quickly grown. The Holiday Inn has
placed orders with Lisa for the specialty items for some private
tailgate parties and for one very important breakfast. Holiday Baking
will be providing cookies for the entire Buckeye team and Coach
Tressel during Michigan week!
“Lisa’s cookies were a great fit for us,” Burke told the Chamber
notes. “We are always looking for ways to work with Clintonville
businesses, and they in turn have looked to our property for their
meeting and lodging needs.
