Chamber to Host City Council Candidates Forum Sept. 11th

The Clintonville Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee will host an informational forum for the eight Columbus City Council candidates on Tuesday, September 11, at 7:00 pm at the North Broadway United Methodist Church, 48 E. North Broadway.

The invited candidates are Bill  Brownson,  Paul Bingle, Jim O’Grady, Hearcel Craig, Andrew Ginther, Michael Mentel, Charleta Tavares, and Larry   Thomas. Priscilla Tyson and Heidi Samuel will meet in a separate election for an un-expired term. Chamber Vice Chair of Governmental Affairs, Joe Patchen will serve as moderator for the event.

Each candidate will be given the opportunity to make a brief opening remarks which will be followed by a question and answer session.  Questions are expected to focus on small business and neighborhood related issues.  In addition to questions from the moderator, written questions will also be accepted from the audience. Candidates will then make a closing statement.

“We believe it is important that our members have the opportunity to meet the candidates and become familiar with their positions,” Patchen said.

All council members run city wide as “at-large” candidates.  Four will be elected on November 6th.

Merger of Blind and Deaf School Will Be Chamber Luncheon Topic

Sept. 27th Lunch Will Feature Ohio School Facilities Commission

Plans for consolidating the campuses of the Ohio School for the Blind and Ohio School for the Deaf will be the topic of discussion at the Chamber’s September 27th luncheon at the Clintonville Woman’s Club.

Representatives of the Ohio School Facilities Commission, which is over seeing the project will review current options for the project and will provide Chamber members and their guests and overview of the project.  The current 212 acre site, which includes several buildings for both schools, is split by a 75 acre “conservation easement” for the Bill Moose Ravine.

At a public open house on August 15, the OSFC presented several plan options with regard to how the new facility might be configured on the existing property.  School officials and members of the OSFC are still reviewing options at this time.

Rob Grinch, OSFC Senior Project Administrator and the project architect Andrew Maletz of Steed/Hammond/Paul will review alternatives and outline the projects process going forward at the Chamber luncheon meeting.

Of particular interest to the Clintonville business community is the possible disposition of any portion of the property that could be deemed excess as a result of the consolidation of the two schools.  At this stage of the projects planning it has not been determined if there will indeed by any excess property at all.

The luncheon will begin at 11:30 am and reservations are required.  Please call the Chamber office at 262-270 to make your reservation or email, jnini@clintonvillechamber.com

The cost of lunch is $15 per person.

Chamber Workers' Comp Program Can Save $$$

Every year, our chamber members are given the opportunity to get a quote for our workers’ compensation group rating program.  And every year, many members do not get a quote from the chamber, due to common misconceptions.

Some members think their company is too small to benefit from the program. But here are the facts…

·       A company paying over $250 annually in premiums may be able to lower this cost.

Group rating is a savings program offered to all companies

To request a no cost or obligation workers' compensation group rating quote, contact the Chamber’s partner, at CompManagement’s Group Rating Department at

1-800-825-6755, option 3.

Cruise the Ville Success Chamber Event,

Touch-A-Truck Big Hit With Families

It was a perfect day, sunshine, families, volunteers, and of course plenty of cars.  In fact, 180  cruisers registered their vehicles ranging from a 1922 Ford T-Bucket, to a 2007 Pontiac Solstice and everything in between.

Cruisers came from throughout central Ohio and beyond.  Twenty-nine different communities were listed on the entry forms.  Corvette was the most popular car with 26 entries, while red was the most popular color (42), followed by blue(20) and black (20).

The big hit of the day was the addition of our Touch-A-Truck display and the Columbus Recreation and Parks Climbing Wall. Clintonville families and kids of all ages were able to get an “up close” look at a variety of vehicles including climbing behind the steering wheel and watching operational demonstrations.  Thanks to the following companies and individuals for providing our Touch-A-Truck vehicles.
